Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effects of radioactive iodine-125 (I-125) seed implantation on routine blood parameters in patients with primary liver cancer (PLC) complicated by cirrhosis and hypersplenism. Methods From 2019 to 2022, 39 patients with PLC complicated by cirrhosis and hypersplenism were treated with I-125 seeds implantation in our hospital. Routine blood parameters, including white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil (NEUT) count, red blood cell (RBC) count, hemoglobin (HGB), platelet (PLT) count, and platelet distribution width (PDW), were compared before treatment, at 1 week post-treatment, and at 1 month post-treatment. Results There were no statistically significant differences in WBC, NEUT, RBC, HGB, PLT, or PDW levels before treatment, at 1 week, and at 1 month after treatment (F=0.641, 0.717, 0.549, 1.354, 0.247, 0.741, all P>0.05). Conclusion I-125 seeds implantation does not significantly affect WBC, NEUT, RBC, HGB, PLT, or PDW in PLC patients with cirrhosis and hypersplenism, indicating that the procedure is safe for this patient population.
