Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the predictive value of umbilical cord blood bilirubin level for subsequent treatment for neonatal jaundiceMethodsTwo hundred and forty healthy term newborns were selectedAll the infants were determined the umbilical cord blood bilirubin concentration and measured of transcutaneous bilirubin dailyThe infants were aligned into four groups according to their umbilical cord blood bilirubin level, starting from<30 μmol/L;30~40 μmol/L;40~50 μmol/L;>50 μmol/LTo analysis of umbilical cord blood bilirubin as a predictor of later development of subsequent jaundiceThe characteristics of infants who became jaundiced were compared with the normal infantResultsThe transcutaneous bilirubin levels and pathologic jaundice patients increased with increasing umbilical cord blood bilirubin levelsIt was a significant to predict neonatal jaundice by umbilical cord blood bilirubin levels(χ2=4528,P<0.01)There was a positive association between transcutaneous bilirubin levels and umbilical cord blood bilirubin levels(r=+0.871,P<0.01)ConclusionThe use of umbilical cord blood bilirubin level for subsequent treatment for neonatal jaundice might reduce the injury of pathologic jaundice
