Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore combined application value of non\|invasive detection methods of vascular function and status among adult smokers.MethodsA total of 2739 people over 18 years who were residents from Shijingshan District of Beijing were involved in the follow\|up survey. The smoking history and proportion of male and female were taken as investigation indicators. PWV and ABI as well as carotid artery were determined.ResultsAmong 2739 participants,952 were males and 1787 females. The smoker group included 462 smokers with a smoking rate of 16.9%.In the smoker group, there were 417 males with a smoking rate of 43.8% and 45 females with a smoking rate of 2.5%.There were more males than females(P<0.01).The detection rate of carotid IMT thickening, plaque formation and stenosis was higher in the smoker group than in non\|smoking group. There was no difference in the PWV of two groups(P>0.05),while there was difference in the ABI of two groups (P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed it was a positive correlation in smoking with carotid intimal thickening, carotid artery plaque and carotid artery stenosis(P<0.01),after controlling for other risk factors partial correlation analysis was still a positive correlation(P<0.01).There was a negative correlation in smoking with ABI(P<0.01),and an irrelevant between smoking and PWV.ConclusionSmoking was an independent risk factors of carotid atherosclerosis change, therefore,it might be a more important significance for early prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis among smokers, early combined detect PWV,ABI and carotid indicators examination.
