Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture on insulin resistance and inflammatory factors in rats with impaired glucose tolerance. Methods The rat models with impaired glucose tolerance induced by STZ injection were randomly divided into model group, metformin group, acupuncture treatment group, and normal group as control group. After 4 weeks of acupuncture treatment, FPG, 2 hPG, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, FFA, FINS, TNF-α, and MCP-1 were measured, HOMA-IS and HOMA-IR were calculated. Results Compared with the control group after treatment, the level of FPG, 2 hPG, FINS, HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C, FFA, TNF-α and MCP-1 in the model group were significantly increased, while HOMA-IS and HDL-C were significantly decreased; Compared with the model group, the level of FPG, 2 hPG, HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C, FFA, TNF-α and MCP-1 in the metformin group were significantly decreased, while HOMA-IS and HDL-C were significantly increased; Compared with the metformin group, the level of FINS, HOMA-IR and TG in the acupuncture treatment group were significantly decreased, while HOMA-IS was significantly increased. Compared the data between all groups has statistical significance(all P<0.01). Conclusion In IGT rats, acupuncture can improve the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, insulin, and so on, and its effect on reducing FINS, TG and HOMA-IR is better than metformin.
